What Is Amoxycillin & Sulbactam Injection?
A sterile vial Amoxycillin 1000 mg & Sulbactam 500 mg (2:1) Amoxycillin works by stopping bacteria from building cell walls. Sulbactam comes in and protects amoxycillin against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which would otherwise make bacteria resistant to amoxycillin. Injected, it is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and tissues, which makes it suitable for people who can’t take tablets.
Antibacterial Spectrum
- Gram-positive: MSSA, streptococci, ampicillin-sensitive enterococci
- Gram negative: H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E coli, Klebsiella, P. mirabilis
- Anaerobes: Bacteroides fragilis
- Not active against: MRSA, Pseudomonas, atypicals, ESBL, and carbapenemases Producers

For administration to a healthcare professional only slow IV injection or short infusion after reconstitution with sterile water for injection Dose varies with the location of the infection, infection severity, age, weight and kidney function.
Safety Information
- Contraindicated: allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin or sulbactam; previous penicillin-induced jaundice; infectious mononucleosis
- Caution: renal impairment, pregnancy, lactation
- Adverse effects: pain at injection site, nausea, diarrhoea, rash. Seek immediate medical attention if swelling of face, difficulty breathing, jaundice or continued watery diarrhoea.
- Interactions: probenecid, allopurinol, methotrexate, warfarin, oral contraceptives
- Storage: below 25°C, dry, protected from light.
